Carpet installation in progress in a Calgary, AB home

What to expect from your Calgary carpet installation

Whether you are installing vinyl plank flooring or hardwood, each comes with its own set of requirements. It will make the process much smoother and easier if you know what to expect and how to prepare. When considering a flooring installation in Calgary, we are your one-stop source.

Pay attention to the little details

Preparation is vital for a trouble-free installation. Ask a lot of questions before the installation, so you know exactly who is responsible for what. Who removes and disposes of the old flooring? Is subfloor repair included in the quote? When can furniture be moved back into the room? Ask about the noise and dust.

Now for the big debate about whether it?s better to paint the walls before or after installation. There are two schools of thought on this one; some say to paint after the installation since installers will be walking in with large rolls and tools that might ding and scratch walls. Others are concerned about paint dropping on the new rug, but if you cover it and use a lot of painter's tape, you should be fine.

During the installation

The installer will use carpet glue to hold the carpet padding. They?ll also nail down strips of wood with carpet tacks along the edges of the room. Then they place the carpet in the middle and use a carpet stretcher to pull it against the wall.

Ensure the rug is stretched with the actual carpet stretcher (a long, thin tool with tines at the end) and not a knee-kicker. The latter should be used only for small spaces like closets. This is a matter of warranty protection because some manufacturers now include this specification in their warranties; if not followed, you could lose your protection.
