- The water-resistant backing layer acts as the foundation that protects both the laminate and the subflooring.
- The inner core, made with fiberboard, provides additional stability as well as resistance to daily wear and tear.?
- The design layer shows off a realistic image of stone or wood.
- The transparent wear layer protects the design layer. It resists color fading along with scratches, scuffs, and another abrasion. Quality products have a thick wear layer.
Laminate floors are put together using the tongue-and-groove method to create a floor that floats over the subfloor. Often, planks or tiles can be installed over existing flooring like ceramic and vinyl as well as concrete and plywood or OSB subflooring.
